According to the Theory, the generations are divided into non-overlapping cohorts that change from life stage to life stage over ten days. The youngest generation is often referred to as baby boomers. A baby boom is a term for people born between 1945 and 1970. This includes people who are still in elementary or high school.<\/span><\/p>\n

Generational Theory has many applications, including in education. It emphasizes the co-evolution of cultural sensibilities, focusing on the evolution of conditions that have influenced how people learn. It also critiques traditional teaching practices.<\/span><\/p>\n

Generational Theory was initially created by American writers and theatre directors William Strauss and Neil Howe. They started a company called LifeCourse Associates to analyze and study generations.<\/span><\/p>\n

The model of recurring turnings developed by Strauss and Howe involves alternating eras of crises and awakenings. An external threat and an ethic of personal sacrifice mark a crisis. During these times, new social orders are formed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Strauss and Howe believe that this cycle of turning will continue throughout history. They have identified 26 turnings within seven spectrums. For example, some turnings are similar to autumn and winter, while others are spring and summer.<\/span><\/p>\n
